David A. Gerber, MD
Dr. David Gerber grew up in the mountains around Park City, Utah. There he learned to ski, bike, fish, hike, camp and do all things outdoors. He spent most of his summers in Florida with family and to escape the heat he quickly developed a love for water sports. He became a strong swimmer and was captain of his high school swimming team and water polo team. He was also introduced to SCUBA diving early and obtained his advanced open water diver certification.
David attended college at the University of Florida, then medical school at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he discovered his passion for emergency medicine. David completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During his third year of residency, he spent one month working at the Kaiser-Permanente Hospital in Honolulu and promptly fell in love with Hawaii.
After a brief stint in Southeast Idaho, he and his wife, Jamie, made the jump to Hawaii. For the past 10+ years he and Jamie have enjoyed living and working in Hilo. In addition to working in the trenches, David is also a medical director for Hawaii Lifeflight, providing medical direction and education for the flight crews.
When not working, he tries his best to be in the water, snorkeling, diving, body boarding, or swimming with his two boys, Danny and Henry.
